Goals and Objectives

The goal of the academic and therapeutic program at Bridge Academy is to successfully transition each student to a less restrictive environment, whether it be a general education setting, a special education setting at the student’s designated public school, or another program.

  • To successfully engage students in academic pursuits
  • To teach more effective means of managing emotions and behaviors
  • To teach students how to appropriately interact with peers across settings
  • To teach students how to respectfully interact and communicate with adults in authority

Curriculum

At Bridge Academy, the curriculum is geared to the individual needs of the student.  High school students working toward a state high school diploma may earn Carnegie units via the use of online instruction (e.g., Edgenuity, Acellus, Apex etc.).  High school students not working toward their diploma are taught using a blend of direct instruction, project-based learning, and online instruction.  If the instructional/IEP team is in agreement, high school students may begin working toward their GED program within Bridge Academy.

The middle school Bridge Academy program is taught using a blend of direct instruction, project-based instruction, and online instruction.  The program’s goal is to build a sense of camaraderie and teamwork among the middle school students while also working on academics at the individual students’ level.  Within the middle school program, particular focus is on the following three student behaviors, which are expected of all students:  following their schedule, communicating well, and finishing all work with a positive attitude daily.

Special Education Services

Students’ services are developed in an individualized manner, depending upon their strengths and needs.  For students with disabilities, special education services are provided as written on students’ Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).  These plans are developed yearly within IEP team meetings.  Each special education student is assigned a case manager who coordinates special education services for that student. Parents may request an IEP meeting at any time.
